Analysts of financial statements and investors at the stock market consider a multiplicity of
factors and metrics when making decisions on what stocks to invest in. This study set out to
establish the effect of current ratio on market price of shares of non financial firms listed at the
NSE. Not much is known about the effect of current ratio, as a measure of liquidity, on changes
in stock market prices of firms listed at the NSE. Studies on current ratio have mostly been
carried out in developed capital markets with little emphasis on its applicability in developing
securities markets such as the NSE. This occurrence has been the basis of great interest in the
issue by capital market researchers in accounting. Correlational research design was used. A
census of all non financial firms listed at the NSE was conducted and secondary data collected
through computation of average rate of change in market price of shares and computation of
current ratios of non financial firms listed at the NSE for the financial years 2012 to 2016. Panel
data was analysed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Inferential statistics
involved development and testing of predictive ability of current ratio panel data regression
model. It was established that the mean current ratio of non financial firms listed at the NSE was
positive and greater than unit (i.e. 2.382025). The implication was that non financial firms listed
at the NSE had current asset values that were more than two times the value of current liabilities.
It was also established that current ratio was not statistically significant in influencing the market
price of shares of non financial firms listed at the NSE.

Certain rocks, rock minerals and rock formations
have come to be associated with ETICs (Extra-terrestrial
Impact Craters). An extra-terrestrial impact crater is a crater
that is formed by an extra-terrestrial impact event whereby a
heavenly body (a meteor, comet or asteroid) hits the earth’s
surface and creates a crater; before it cools on the earth’s
surface as a meteorite or completely gets squashed by
thermodynamics of space transit. The crater created can be dry
or filled with water and may be a simple crater or a complex
one, also denoted as a basin. The objective of this paper is to
describe the geology of Silali basin as an Extra-Terrestrial
Impact Crater (ETIC), highlight the importance of some of its
ETIC rocks and explain the formation of Silali basin resulting
from extra-terrestrial impact. Data was collected through field
observation, remote sensing, analysis of past geographical and
geological studies, interviewing and laboratory analysis.
Information has been presented in the form of analyzed satellite
images, pictures, tables, and maps. Notably, this is the first
study on extra-terrestrial impact cratering (ETIC) in Kenya.
Consequently, Silali basin, as an ETIC, and its environs, is a
virgin field for further scientific research.

The Directorate of Research, Linkages and Extension (RL&E) in the Division of Planning,
Research and Development (PR&D) at the University of Kabianga (UoK) provides strategic
guidance for the improvement of the research culture at UoK. The underlying vision is that the
knowledge thus generated and appropriately disseminate will ultimately contribute to improvement
of the general well-being of society. This is in line with the three core mandates of institutions of
higher learning that include Academics, Research and Extension.
In this First UoK International Conference a broad range of papers covering various disciplines were
presented under an all encompassing theme “Encouraging Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation
for the Betterment of Humanity”, that had three subthemes namely Science and Humanity, Science
and Culture and Science and Religion. Of the papers presented, twenty four are published in these
proceedings that include a keynote paper and twenty three research papers. While among these
there are pure scientific research papers, a large proportion of the publications explore the interface
between religion and other disciplines as a way of making the latter more relevant to the norms of
our daily lives. There is no doubt that integrating religion with other disciplines will strengthen the
moral and ethical considerations in all research areas. Overall this will contribute to ensuring that, to
a large extent, research outputs are beneficial to humans and play a crucial role in the sustainability
of a productive and healthy environment.
Thus, the content of these proceedings provides a window and challenge to the readers to advocate
for and carry out research that is responsive to the multi-faceted needs of the various societies. This
requires development and execution of projects that incorporate their various ways of life by taking
keen interest and in-depth understanding of the cultural and religious beliefs of the target society.
Only then shall we succeed in our endeavours to make long-lasting positive impact on the well-being
of humanity.
On behalf of UoK, the continued financial support by the UoK Council and sponsorship by the
various friends of the University now and in future, is acknowledged with gratitude. This will go
a long way in the actualization and sustenance of UoK’s Vision - “To be a leading University in
Scientific Innovation for the Betterment of Humanity”.
